Heh, let me start by saying I'm much more of a manga than an anime fan, like I'm more of a book than a television/movie fan.
Other than that... I never watched the anime, my sister and my best friend did, and they didn't really like it... So basically I just base my opinion on that.
I like to keep my own image of things, it's always been like that. The art in the manga is gorgeous while I think the art in the anime is so-so and as such I just decided not to watch it... It's a matter of taste I guess :) I never ment to offend anyone though!

You certainly didn't offend.. I was partly just teaasing! But you should rent or borrow at least one of the gensomaden disks sometime just to hear the English VOA's and the seiyuus. I even listened yesterday to 3 voice only mp.3 bits with the seiyuus, little sketches, and the person that sent them sent links to sites with translations of the scripts. Even just hearing them in Japanese and having read the script earlier, no visual at all, I was cracking up because I could tell exactly what was going on between the characters through the great voice characterizations (plus sound effects, of course.) One of them involved Sanzo getting drunk and singing karaoke- badly. It was truly funny.

You see, I have a very specific way the characters sound in my head... I heared Goku, Gojyo and Sanzo and they really didn't sound like they do in my head... I really prefer keeping my own image of things...
I'm a huge Harry Potter fan, but never saw the movies past the 2nd because I just couldn't stand them... When I read something I have an image in my head of how it should be and I really don't like seeing it any differently...

I am funny about that too with books that I am really attached to. It is rare that I approve of the movie of a book made from one of my most-loved books - they just never match what I have in my head. Maybe if I had read the manga first instead of watched the anime I'd feel the same way about Saiyuki. As it is I just love all of it!
