Random Note: Nothing in the world is random, for everything has a cause, even if we're not aware of this. So then where did it start?
Just a bit ago, my sister, her boyfriend and I had a discussion on time-travel and in particular traveling back in time. We all agreed that, under the current laws of physics this is not possible.
The boyfriend and me however, argued that it might (emphasis on the might) be possible in say, a thousand years time. Because, let's face it, a thousand years ago we all still believed the earth was flat and anyone saying otherwise was marked crazy and/or a heritic. Also, a century ago the idea that one day, we might be able to make a machine that could think for itself was thought preposterous and a fairytale. These days, Artificial Intelligence is a valid part of scientific research.
In other words, we argued that the physics laws are in fact relative and something we set as standards in order to regulate our lifes. Each and every one of them started as some obscure theory that noone really believed and came to replace theories that were once as common place as our physics laws are now.
This would mean that in 1000 years, humanity might have a completely different set of physical laws to live by in which timetravel might be, in fact, possible.
My sister, on the contrary, argued that this was all good and fine theoretically, but that the laws of physics are absolute and have been proven to be true. As such, while traveling forward in time might be possible, traveling back in time is completely impossible in every sense and will never be possible.
So now I'm all geeky a about it and I want to know what you guys think.
