Sewing babble

Random Note: Dancing really is an addiction.

So... Months after it's finished, here are the mandatory pictures of the first skirt I made. I got it done back in december but I wasn't quite happy with the way it flowed so I went back and fixed it. Now it's good for normal wear! Espeacially since I found the shirt and necklace to go with it. I'm pretty happy with it all! :D

First of all; me, in the skirt

Aaaand a close-up of the skirt. Please ignore the ugly belly, I had to pull the skirt down and the shirt up and away to take this.

There. Now I'm allowed to geek out over my current project! ;)

I'm making these really wide three quarter pants. I have relatively dark, subtle jeans fabric (pretty thin as well) and I'm combining it with bright pink threat and buttons. The picture in the magazine isn't in a style I'd wear, but I think that the fabric and my use of threat will make all the difference and I'm really excited about it. With the right shoes and shirt it might be something I could wear when I need to be neat, but with my all stars and other shirts, it'll be pretty cool but still kind of... different?

The magazine pic;

Aaand a detail of the only thing I've actually done so far (but I think looks seriously awesome anyway :P) the pockets.

Inbetween I made another skirt, one specifically made for balfolk, but I have yet to take a good picture of it. It's lovely though, has exactly the effect I wanted it to have. It's funny to see how I've been looking at clothing, fabric, sewing and that kind of thing quite differently from before. Also, I'm starting to understand patterns, how they work, etc. better. That's really important to me, because I eventually want to work to designing my own stuff.

So... What do you guys think? ^___^

I am! :D Actually, I'm incredibly happy with how well all my sewing projects are turning out. I love doing it too, it's extremely relaxing.

The skirt is cute, and I love what you're doing with the pants! The pocket's adorable.

[identity profile] ginnyvos.livejournal.com 2009-03-19 03:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Heee thanks! :D Am very happy with them too. The skirt doesn't fall quite how I'd wanted it too, but it's good enough and for a first project I'm very happy with it!

I also have a very good feeling about the pants. Am so excited about them! ^___^

oh wow!!! it looks great sweety! i'm very impressed with how fast you've picked up on sewing. You're doing an amazing job. I can't wait for spring/summer to get here so i can start making things for Leah again. and maybe even myself.

[identity profile] ginnyvos.livejournal.com 2009-03-19 03:41 pm (UTC)(link)
*grins from ear to ear* I'm pretty proud of me as well to be honest ^___^ I really enjoy sewing and the lessons were really a good choice because this way I actually take the time to do it and learn a lot as well.
I'm actually amazed with how much faster I've become in such a short time. My sewing instructor said I pick up on it extremely quickly :D

Oooh you'll post pics of it, right? (*is a hypocrit and knows it*)

The skirt is beyond cute! I love it! You have such a cute face, too! -squishes- The pants look awesome, btw. I agree with the above poster, the pockets look spiffy.

[identity profile] ginnyvos.livejournal.com 2009-03-19 03:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Heee thank you so much *blushes* I'm very fond of the pants already and so far it's just the pocket and nothing more (well two pockets but yeah..)

[identity profile] deathcomes4u.livejournal.com 2009-03-20 12:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, it still looks cool so far ^-^ Definitely put up more pictures when the pants are done!

[identity profile] ginnyvos.livejournal.com 2009-03-20 01:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Haha I think so too! And I will, though I'm not promising it will be soon after it's done... :P After all, I promised that I'd put up pictures when the skirt was done. It was done back in december ;)

Heee! Very cute skirt! (And an equally cute girl wearing it! ;) )

I've been doing a lot of sewing myself, mostly for my doll. I love how they've been turning out! ♥

And I misssssss you. How have you been doing?

[identity profile] ginnyvos.livejournal.com 2009-03-19 07:18 pm (UTC)(link)
(lol I actually think I look kinda woozy in the picture, but that might be just me XD)

Oooh cool! Will we get (more) pictures? I did see the ones you took. The doll thing everyone is on about isn't really my thing (that and I really don't have 200 dollar stashed away somewhere to buy one anyway). I do look at everyone elses pictures though.

Miss you tooooo! *cuddles* and I've been pretty stressy lately over all, though I've been making a conscious effort to calm down and relax the last week. Has been helping some. Otherwise it's just the motions...
Free time is being sucked up more and more by balfolk (traditional folk dancing but with a modern twist, it's amazingly fun) and sewing... And of course fanfic and LJ. They're fun things though!
I love sewing, it's relaxing and a lot of fun. I'm able to be very creative and work with my hands, and you get results quite fast. It's also actually something I'm good at, which is a lot of fun. Everyone in my family is astonished with how neat I work. I'm just kind of like... well, that's because I can.
Dancing is really wonderful as well. Just so much fun and relaxing. Both sewing and dancing are so wonderfully different from my studies, it's wonderful! :D

So what about you?

[identity profile] eyesofshinigami.livejournal.com 2009-03-19 07:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Of course there will be more pix! Now that the weather has been nice, I plan on taking Noah out for more pix and seeing what sorts of poses/scenes I can get him in. :) And when my roommate's doll gets in, I hope to take some pix of them together.

I know how that is. I haven't been around much either due to school work, scheduling classes, work, and RL stuff. So I totally understand how that is. And I'm glad that you have something that's helping you to destress. :)

There is an awesome sense of accomplishment you have when you finish a sewing project. :) I'm actually going to be working on some pajama pants tonight for Noah, hopefully!

♥ *glomp*

Cute!

And Oh my god. You look like my cousins. @_@

[identity profile] ginnyvos.livejournal.com 2009-03-19 07:21 pm (UTC)(link)
It that a... Good thing? õ.O
I think I look kinda woozy and weird in the picture, but that might just be me and besides, pictures are never kind to me. Ah well, was the best picture out of the bunch and I didn't feel like trying even more than I already did.

[identity profile] aki-jade.livejournal.com 2009-03-19 08:16 pm (UTC)(link)
lol, yeah it's a good thing.

[identity profile] ginnyvos.livejournal.com 2009-03-19 08:39 pm (UTC)(link)
haha ok good :P

[identity profile] mr-redrum.livejournal.com 2009-03-19 06:12 pm (UTC)(link)
impressive works! I really impressed :). nice pocket detail too! (I always thought detail is important in fashion. make it special).

ever thought of having your own boutique with your own design?

[identity profile] ginnyvos.livejournal.com 2009-03-19 07:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you so much! I'm also really into the detail stuff. You're right, it does add the little bit that separates boring same old from interesting and unique.

Heh not so much, I just want to design for myself and possibly for close friends and stuff, not comercially. I'm aiming to be a kids psychologist :P It is a wonderful hobby though! :D
(On the other hand... My sewing instructor actually used to be a child psychologist as well, than quit her job and started giving sewing classes, so you never know! ;))

That do look nice!Good job!
